Traveling to Austria
Austria is a German-speaking country, but many citizens speak English fluently. It has lots
of mountains surrounding it. It is a haven for tourists; about 40 million visit Austria
every year. Eight other Schengen countries border it; Italy, the Czech Republic, Hungary,
Switzerland, Slovenia, Germany, Slovakia, and Liechtenstein.
Traveling to Austria can be through air, road or by rail. When arriving in Austria by air,
most international flights arrive at the Vienna International Airport located in Schwechat.
Schwechat is located about 18 km or 11 miles from the city's center.
Visitors from neighboring countries within the European Union can also enter Austria by rail.
High-speed trains link Austria to other Schengen countries like Germany, Hungary, France, and
Italy.
Taking the bus or road can be a great idea for trips closer to the border towns. It is generally
not expensive and gives you a tour and a feel of the border towns. From Munich in Germany to
Salzburg in Austria, the journey takes just about 3 hours by road.
